The family of Dr. Ransom S. Bettis is given the distinction of being the first settlers on the land that is now called Pocahontas. Dr. Bettis' daughter, Cinderella, married Thomas S. Drew and lived on 800 acres where the town of Biggers now exists. Bettis and Drew led the founding of Pocahontas as the county seat of Randolph County. In 1835 the Territorial Legislature granted the formation of Randolph County from part of Lawrence County. Davidsonville is Arkansas' oldest town. It was established in 1815. The Old Davidsonville State Park, formerly the city of Davidsonville, which was the site of Arkansas' first courthouse, post office and land office is located near the convergence of Black, Eleven Point and Spring Rivers. The county was named after John Randolph, a Virginia congressman. Randolph is the only county in the state that has five rivers within it's borders: Black, Current, Spring, Eleven Point and Fourche. ![]() RANDOLPH COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN POCAHONTAS 2005
