Real and personal property tax records are kept by the Chief County Assessment Officer in each Illinois County. Land and land improvements are considered real property while mobile property is classified as personal property.Many county assessors provide an online searchable database, whereby searches can be performed by parcel number, tax assessment year, address, type/class of property, or by using an interactive map. Some counties offer separate searches for real or personal property tax records.For counties that are not online, requests must be made over the phone, in person or via written request.
