Connecticut birth records are the responsibility of the Connecticut Department of Public Health State Office of Vital Records. This office manages vital records from July 1, 1897 to present. Vital records must be obtained in person or by mail. Vital records prior to July 1, 1897 can be found with the Town Clerk in the town where the event occurred.Birth records are restricted for 100 years from the date of the event. This means that during that time period, birth records can only be accessed by the registrant, spouse, immediate family member, legal representative, or other authorized agency/organization. Marriage, civil union, and death records are not restricted and can therefore be requested by anyone over 18 years of age.
