Wisconsin birth records are managed by the Wisconsin Vital Records Office. Vital records can be obtained in person, by mail, or by fax. Certified copies of vital records are restricted to the registrant, spouse, parent, siblings, child, grandparent, a person with written authorization, or someone who can demonstrate that the record is required to protect a personal or property right. Non-certified copies of birth and death records are available to the general public; however, non-certified copies cannot by used for legal purposes. Birth records of children born to unmarried parents where paternity has not been established or was established by a court order are not available as non-certified records.
