Death records in Louisiana are the responsibility of the Louisiana Vital Records Registry, a division of the Office of Public Health. Death records are restricted for 50 years from the date of death. During the restriction period, birth records are only available to the registrant or their spouse, parents, adult child, sibling, grandparent, adult grandchild, or a beneficiary of an insurance policy. Death records are available from 1957 to present. Death records prior to 1957 can be obtained through the Louisiana State Archives. Birth and death records can be ordered in person, by mail, by internet, by fax, or phone.
