For statewide inmate information, calls can be made to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Full name, inmate number, or date of birth must be provided to obtain inmate information. The information provided is location of the inmate and the inmate number. Inmate information is not available online. Information can also be provided via fax. Crime victims, relatives, parents or guardians of a minor victim, witnesses, or concerned citizens can request to be notified of offender status such as death, release, placement in a re-entry facility, or escape. Requests must be made in writing to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.Jail and inmate records can also generally be found with the County Sheriff's office. Some Sheriff’s Offices provide online searchable databases where searches can be performed by name, date, and inmate number. For County Sheriff offices that do not offer online records, information may be requested by phone.
