Statewide Virginia inmate records are managed by the Virginia Department of Corrections. Also, depending on the county, either the County Sheriff’s office or the Regional Jail or Detention Center also manage inmate records.The Department of Corrections provides an online database whereby inmate records can be searched by name, race, sex, or inmate number. Online inmate information is also available through Vinelink, a victim notification service. Inmate records managed by the County Sheriff Offices, Regional Jails, or Detention Centers can be obtained in person, by mail, or by phone requests.
