The Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation is responsible for all business and corporate filings. An online search is available where searches can be performed to obtain Certificates of Status. However, this requires knowledge of the business ID number and the payment of a usage fee. Business license records can also be found with the Clerk of Circuit Court for businesses such as restaurants, contractors, and retail establishments.The Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing is responsible for over 175,000 professionals in Maryland, including accountants, architects, electricians, cosmetologists, and land surveyors. Online searches are available by individual name, business name, or location.The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene manages the licensing of professionals such as doctors, nurses and surgeons. Each profession may have its own board such as the Board of Dental Examiners, or the Board of Physicians. Depending on the profession, online searches may be available. Where online records are not an option, information can be obtained by phone, by mail, in person, or by email.Attorney licensing is managed by the Maryland Judiciary, State Board of Law Examiners and the Maryland Bar Association. The Maryland Bar Association offers an online directory of licensed attorneys.
