The Department of State Division of Corporations manages records for businesses, not for profit corporations, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, and other miscellaneous businesses. An online searchable database is available whereby searches cam be performed by name. Records for general partnerships, sole proprietorships, and limited liability companies are available through the County Clerk in the county where the entity conducts business. Some County Clerks provide online access to documents. For counties that are not online, records requests can be made in person, by phone, or by mail.In New York, professional licenses are managed by various professional boards. An online search for professional records is available through the New York Office of the Professions. Searches can be performed by profession and name. Most professional records can be obtained through this search, including accountants, dentists, doctors, nurses, and social workers. Attorney professional records are available through the New York Bar Association. Online records searches can be performed by name; alternatively, the New York Bar Association may be contacted in person, by phone, or by mail.
