The Pennsylvania Secretary of State Business Filing Department is responsible for business and corporate records. Corporations, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, and nonprofit corporations all file documents through the Secretary of State. An online searchable database is available, whereby business record searches can be performed. Some searches are free, while others require a fee payment. Most professional licenses in Pennsylvania are regulated by the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, which is a division of the Department of State. An online database is available whereby searches for professional records can be performed by profession, license type, facility name, license number, location, or by an individual's name. Records for attorneys, however, are managed by the Pennsylvania Bar Association and by the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court. The Disciplinary Board provides an online searchable database of attorney licensing, whereby searches can be performed by name, city, or identification number.
